Sielatycki Invitational & Family Reunion

Each summer since 1991 (usually the first Saturday in August) marks a remarkable family event.  The annual Sielatycki Reunion and Golf Championship has become legendary.  This fierce but friendly competition has rejuvenated stories from the past and generated incredible moments that have become etched in our memories forever.  The planning and responsibility for the "S.I." is arranged on a rotating basis throughout the Sielatycki Families located in the USA.

Sielatycki Rules of Golf

"The most difficult major to win in all of golf."
The Sielatycki Family Championship is not a competition against one another, it is a competition against the game of golf. Every player begins the tournament with one goal: to earn the honor of becoming the Sielatycki Family Champion.

The championship is played under the Rules of Golf as established by the USGA. We play the ball as it lies, every putt must be holed (there are no gimmes), and every competitor is expected to know and follow the rules to the best of their ability. Integrity is part of the competition. At some point during the round, however, many players realize that the championship is no longer within reach. Once a player voluntarily declares themselves "out of the competition," a wonderful transformation occurs. From that moment on... almost anything goes. Give yourself a three-footer. Pick up after a rough hole. Establish a maximum score. Tell terrible jokes. Wander over to the beverage cart. Reach into the bag for a little "swing lubricant." Laugh too loudly. So basically the same thing you did the first 3 holes. Cheer on the leaders and try NOT to distract them...maybe just enough to make things interesting. In other words, enjoy yourself...but once you declare... "IT'S OVER", you just can't win the Red Jacket.

Meanwhile, the remaining contenders face an entirely different challenge. They must continue playing serious golf while surrounded by family chaos, constant conversation, questionable commentary, and relentless trash talk. The true champion isn't simply the player with the best swing, they're the one who can maintain focus, composure, and honor in the face of family chaos and charaters.

The tournament actually begins long before the first tee shot. It starts with the traditional trash-talking emails, continues through Friday night's festivities, and culminates in a day of competitive golf played in the relaxed, unpredictable company of family and friends. Every family member is eligible to become champion. Friends and guests are always welcome to join the fun as ceremonial participants. For those who prefer camaraderie over competition, a four-person scramble is occasionally offered so everyone can enjoy the day, regardless of skill level.

At the annual family reunion, the Men's and Ladies' Champions are officially crowned. Each receives the coveted Red Jacket, earns permanent bragging rights for the year, and is granted the distinguished privilege of drinking from the legendary bottle of Old Smuggler.

Some play for fun.
Some play for pride.
Everyone plays for the history and the stories.
